Observing changes through the decades

Us Girls appeared throughout the middle of the twentieth century alongside defining moments that shaped society. Us Girls first appeared in the Boston Post in the late 1920s, less than six months before the Stock Market Crash of 1929, which began the Great Depression.

Her sketches continued through Prohibition, WWII, the prosperity of the 1950s, and into the cultural shifts of the 1960s. Edith, known as “Edee” to family and friends, adapted Us Girls to reflect the times, trends, and social norms that shaped everyday life while creating a light hearted diversion for her readers.
